Who are We?: Brief Profiles of the Volunteers

Based in India:

Pulkit Parikh (webpage, email)
In his own words, Pulkit earns his wages through R&D in computer science. Having worked for nearly 2.5 years with HP Labs, he's moved onto Kritikal SecureScan (an IIT-D incubated company) to spearhead its research. A native of Ahmedabad, he holds an MS-by-research degree (specialization in computer vision) from IIIT-H. A staunch believer in amending his own lifestyle before attempting to amend someone else's, Pulkit practices & promotes various forms of Individual Social Responsibility - cycling/bussing to work, water-economic habits, giving a living wage/weekly off to the maid, plant-based diet & much more. He has also been a consistent contributor (with time & money) to several grassroots groups, including AID. More on his meticulously maintained blog.

Deepala Suresh (email)
Even though he is concurrently studying law, Suresh is effectively a full time contributor to social change. His range of work has been manifold: He has almost single-handedly rescued and rehabilitated 100+ homeless people from the roadsides of Hyderabad till date; he has been striving to assist Chhattisgarh tribals caught in the crossfire between the Maoists and the state, in terms of court cases as well as supporting the displaced; he also volunteers with groups promoting sustainable agriculture. A native of AP, Suresh has a degree in Electrical and Electonics Engeneering, which he is not planning to draw upon, as it is not well aligned with his objective of empowering the weakest.

Bharat Jauhari (email)
Bharat is an embedded system engineer by profession, currently employed with ST Microelectronics. As a volunteer with AID, he has been involved in a variety of activities - most notably, the govt school intervention and micro-lending to cycle rickshaw pullers. In recent times, Bharat has undergone a steep transition towards a socially and environmentally responsible lifestyle (striving especially to avoid plastic). He also makes it a point to complement that with financial support. He's come to recognize - and rightly so - that every single drop in the ocean counts.

Sejal Parikh (webpage, email)
Having been hooked to the arena of Telecom/IT for half a decade, Sejal has recently plunged into social change full time by joining a fellowship on rural healthcare by the distinguished Community Health Cell. A Gujarati by birth, Sejal holds an engineering degree in Electronics and Communications. For the last three years, she has been contributing to various non-profit projects and causes, including the awareness campaign on Genetically Modified food. A profusely climate-conscious choice-maker, she makes it a point to minimize waste through maximal use of reusables, along with economizing water and power consumption. Her cycling had inspired many of her Wipro colleagues to follow suit, before she moved on to Aricent. Know further at her blog.

Based in the US:

Archit Patel (email)
Archit, native of Ahemdabad and now settled in Atlanta, USA, is an IT consultant by profession. After working for over 2 years at Accenture, he has been working at Capgemini for close to 4 years now. A bachelor in IT from Nirma Institute (Ahmedabad), Archit  has  humbly tried to lead by example on the matter of NRIs shouldering the funding of field work back home. He is a big proponent and practitioner of 'reduce and reuse' – minimizing use of disposables.

Abhishek Shah (email)
Despite having been blessed with a birth in an upper middle class family, he is acutely mindful of bitter struggle that a vast majority of Indians continue to undergo. He earns his bread by working as a software engineer in USA (6 years into it now), and has been engaged with ASHA NJ-NY chapter for over 3 years. His endavour is to strive towards making opportunities available to every child in India, along with individual actions for energy and climate conservation.
